The event will bring together 10 transnational teams, covering 30 elements in each team (inclusion of participants aged 60 or more, on the one hand, and young NEET aged 18 to 30). Therefore, with the implementation of this event, we expect, on the one hand, to contribute to minimize losses of the ageing process, promote inclusion and improve the quality of life of senior people in their daily context and in the area covered by this application. On the other hand, we expect to promote the acquisition of knowledge and skills of the younger people, through informal and non-formal education provided by the older ones, arousing a new look at the issues of ageing, stimulating and recovering traditional games, promoting lifelong learning. This event should also result in the creation of sport and physical activity programs adjusted to the elderly to be applied by young people with skills in the sport area who participate in the Olympics. This intergenerational initiative involves pedagogical aspects inherent to the process of education and socialization of the youth and the elderly, with reference to competition of the universal sports modalities and traditional games to be played in the Intergenerational Olympics 2015 between 7th and 10th September, 2015.
After the Municipality of Vila Nova de Cerveira launched and led the project Olympics4All in 2015 co-financed by the program Erasmus + Sport - European Not-For-Profit European Sport Events (http://ec.europa.eu/programmes/erasmus-plus/projects/eplus-project-details/#project/560956-EPP-1-2015-1-PT-SPO-SNCESE), its IV edition was held in September this year in Arcos de Valdevez. For 2019, the announcement has already been made of which municipality will host the fifth edition in the initiative "Olympics4all" - the Municipality of Melgaço. Raising awareness of the practice of physical activity among the most vulnerable groups, this event also provides an opportunity to deepen the knowledge of the motivational factors for the systematic practice of physical exercise in the elderly and the impact of sports competitions on their physical and mental fitness. This good practice that has proven to be a success in the Alto Minho region is being replicated in four European countries under the project "IN COMMON SPORTS" - Collaborative Partnerships of the ERASMUS + Program - (http://ec.europa.eu/programmes/erasmus-plus/projects/eplus-project-details/#project/590543-EPP-1-2017-1-PT-SPO-SCP), representing an enormous recognition of the work done and helping to reinforce the consciousness of a truly borderless Europe.
